SAF-T

SAF-T stands for Standard Audit File for Tax. It is the file you pull out of the accounting system when the whole ledger has to go somewhere else: to a new system, to the accountant or to an authority. The file is XML and follows a Danish standard, so the receiver can read it without knowing your system.

What is SAF-T?

The Danish version, SAF-T Financial, holds a header with the company's details, the chart of accounts with every account's opening and closing balance, and every entry with date, voucher number, account, amount, VAT and text. Currency vouchers carry currency, amount and rate. Because the format is fixed, another accounting system can import the file, and an accountant can analyse the whole ledger in one go.

The Danish Bookkeeping Act requires that the books can be handed over at any time in a structured, machine-readable format, and SAF-T is the standard for that. The file is not an annual report and not what the Danish Business Authority's Regnskab Basis reads; it is the ledger itself.

SAF-T in Veneti

In Veneti you download the SAF-T file under Booked entries, free and with the whole ledger: with a period the file carries what was booked before the period as each account's opening balance, and without one it is the whole history. The file validates against the Danish SAF-T Financial standard. Read more under Data export.

If you switch accounting systems, SAF-T together with CSV and every voucher as ZIP is what you take with you. Moving the other way, to Veneti, we read your old system's export: Switch accounting system.
